Two days to his 56th birthday, a former Taraba State Governor Danbaba Danfulani Suntai died yesterday in Orlando, Florida, United States. He had been in and out of hospital in Europe and the U.S. in the last five years, after surviving a plane crash at the Yola airport. Then the sitting governor of his state, he flew the aircraft that crashed on October 25, 2012 but managed to complete his tenure in 2015 after being treated for the injuries he sustained. The former governor was born in Suntai, Bali Local Government Area on June 30, 1961 The Aide-de-Camp to Suntai, Mr. Dasat Iliya; his Chief Security Officer Timo Dangana and the Chief Detail, Joel Dangana, were also aboard the private Cessna plane that crashed. Following the crash the ex-governor was initially treated at Adamawa Standard German Hospital in Yola, the National Hospital in Abuja on October 26, 2012 and at a hospital in Germany. A civil servant in Kogi, Mrs Husseina Mohammed has returned the sum N1, 780,500 paid in  excess of her March salary to the coffers of the state government. She is a level seven accountant attached to the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) in Lokoja. Her monthly salary is approximately N34,000. However, one morning, while shopping, Husseina’s phone beeped, indicating a text message. Upon opening it, she saw that her salary account credited with N1, 787, 550.98k. . The text message stated that it was her salary for the month of March, 2017. Shocked, Husseina told Nigerian Tribune that she read the message over and over again. . World’s oldest woman, Alimiha Seiti claims she was born on June 15, 1886. She lives in  China and last Sunday, she celebrated her 131st birthday with some of her 56 descendants in attendance. According to China News Service, despite her very old age, a local doctor Abdul Rusuli checked Alimiha Seiti over on her birthday and found normal blood pressure and blood sugar levels. The Gerontological Society of China named Alimiha as the country’s oldest person in a 2013 report and a London body Carrying the Flag World Records recognises her claim to be the world’s oldest person. A police nursing mother, Ugo Okochi, residing along Mile 50 layout Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, yesterday poured, Chinyere Igwe with hot water and hot melon soup, over alleged disobedience to the directive of the woman who was said to have been maltreating the young girl since she was brought to her from the village. Okochi who recently gave birth to twins, two weeks ago, was said to have poured the girl with hot soup and water after the girl was directed to fry the melon but the girl mistakenly forgot and poured the melon inside the soup without frying it. The Lagos Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has signed into law Life Imprisonment or death penalty for the offence of Kidnap and forceful extortion in Lagos State as he signs into law the state kidnapping prohibition bill, 2016. The law provides for death penalty for kidnappers whose victims die in their custody, and life imprisonment for the act of kidnapping. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Lagos State House of Assembly passed the bill on January 5. The governor said that the law was enacted to address key issues bordering on security. An Ikeja High Court on Thursday remanded an American citizen, Marco Ramirez, at Kirikiri Maximum Prison for allegedly defrauding three Nigerians in a $565,000 green card and investment scam. . Mr. Ramirez was remanded following his not-guilty plea to a 16-count charge of obtaining money under false presences. He was arraigned by the EFCC. . The EFCC prosecutor, V. O. Aigboje, alleged that the accused, managing director of three companies – USA Now Plc., Eagleford Instalodge Group and USA Now Capital Group – committed the offences between February 2013 and August 2013. . POLICE RECRUITMENT Abuja – Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, on Friday said Nigeria needed to recruit 30,000 police personnel annually for five years to meet UN recommendation. Idris made this known in Abuja while dialoguing with civil society organizations under the umbrella of “Situation Room’’ as he turned one year in office. He said that when compared to other countries with over one million police personnel, Nigeria was under-policed because it had not attained the UN ratio of one-policeman-to-four-citizens ratio. “One of the challenges facing the police force is that of personnel. We are just about 380,000 personnel. Even though we are the largest in Africa, we are not enough. “If we are to follow the UN ratio of 1: 4 of police-to-citizens of the country, the Nigeria police force would be put at almost 700, 000; so, we are still operating below the UN ratio. “Last year, we recruited 10,000 police officers, but it is not enough. “So, in my o...
